Poem: An Aubade

I have begun a new poetry collection that explores my experiences in this locked down year in which I have also been freed from sleep apnoea and chronic fatigue by a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine.

I have dubbed the machine and the poetry collection with the quasi mythic name of The Sleep Machine.

Here is a poem composed this morning from the collection.

An Aubade

Silent 5 am starts disarm fatigue.
Once I could not bestir myself
In this morning darkness

Now the hissing mask
Releases the pressure of dreams
Into the inexplicable day

Light flows in
Illness eases its way past
While my own lungs repair

And begin unaided to breathe.
The night lets go of me;
And I let go in the day.
